A Desk Re-do...

This $1.99 wooden letter tray prompted an entire desk makeover...
Wood...not what I had in mind.

Get your tools handy.....primer, Heirloom White spray paint, sanding block...
all leftover from other projects.

Primed and painted....

Bust out the power tools, I used this circle cuttering thingamajig to cut a half circle for the side of the tray (it will be the backside of the tray in the end)
See....a little mouse hole for the cords to go through... Now re-spray your new mouse house...

Drill a few holes for ventilation....my laptop will be sitting on top.

Just drilled some random holes, you won't be able to see them in the end.
What? Is this a problem?

The bane of my husbands existence....my work area right in the middle of the kitchen, convenient but messy! Cords, cords and more cords.

But wait! All of the cords fit UNDER the tray (flipped upside-down)

This is the hole I cut for the back.

See how the front of the tray is now the side for the cords to fit through?
Other side...

Goodnight mouse...get in your house...
There you go!
Ahhhh much better

See? Now you can't see any cords!
(wait...I just realized you can still see a printer cord on the right of my computer, BUT I just figured out how to slip it
under with the rest of the cords. whew, that was a close one!)

They are hiding under the letter tray that is turned upside down!

Viola!!

I wish that I didn't need this GIANT calendar, but it helps me keep things under control....I can see all of my appointments, and keep the boys schedules close at hand.

BEFORE

AFTER

Not bad for $1.99 and an afternoon.

  6. Omaga...that is just fabulous. Totally showing my hubby this as we're constantly tangled in cords. Technology doesn't lend itself easily to stylish decor, eh? LOVE your solution!

    Glad you could Mi4M :)

  7. lol this is great. I could never have a work space in the kitchen. Cords are the least of my crazy messy worries (smile).
